As the embargo period has ended, here are the pics of the next big E system (mock up set). This model will be displayed in photokina tomorrow.

Olympus also announced their interest in using wood as building material for their cameras. Check the message posted by ykok.

enjoy.

Hi There,

From what I understand, usually a mockup is not indicative of the final look & shape of the camera.

As someone who's particular about ergonomics, I hope the controls, & sculpting of the grips, placement of buttons are user friendly. We can observe a departure from the well liked control layout of E1 which many I know of wishes to see preserved.

The front control dial seems to me to be actuatable by the middle finger reserving the index finder to release the shutter. The button & dial layout of the grip seems to be undetermined at this point in time. However it appears that the battery grip is removable, & if so, that means one has the option to travel lighter.

I'm hoping that the two buttons may be tied to Olympus' famed multi-spot meter :-)

Anyway, all speculation and personally, the design is starting to grow on me :-)

Thanks for the post bariq :-)

Cheers,

Well I believe we would have to really use and touch the camera itself to really understand and appreciate why those experts in Olympus design it in this way.

Remember? Nobody say the E-1 was looking good and we can't really judge a book by its cover. But when get hold of one, ahh.... that's it... it fits nicely!

What really puzzles me is, why there's no dial knob on the battery grip? Or may be it's still an early prototype?

But frankly, I like the clean and handsome look, at least it's got it's own style.

my view... the design is perfect...not in relation to the looks...but look at the way the buttons have been placed.... ... A perfect fit for my Hands .. Smile

better than making it look like a video game during navigation ... Smile

Hi There,

The following thread on DPR has a hands-on mockup & shows the relative size of the new E body in hand and a 50mm mounted macro. IMO The camera's organic lines does appear to look much better in hand.

Cheers
