Hi There,

Olympus Imaging Singapore kindly invited me to help out with their launch of the E410/510 to the press & dealers on 26 Apr 07. A number of Olympus- using pro photographers were there to help out as well. I was to ensure the 410s were set up properly for the attendees and in between, managed to get a few shots for Mytikas to share :-)

For some @ Mytikas : The Highlight of The Launch :-)

The ZD50-200 SWD mockup, shooting with the oldie but goodie ZD50-200, I can't help notice how compact in length the new lens is. I was hoping to trade-places of mine with the unit under glass ... but then, we won't have pictures to share here :-)

Hello Bariq,

Well, there're a few factors. The opportunity I had of taking close ups was when I was needed to help with the event, so the images were mostly taken afar. The harsh lighting used to showcase the mockups did not help with the lighting. Some angles brought up too much reflection & diminished details and so weren't worth the take.

All I can say is all of the set are mockups. So I'd be happy to share my observations of them offline. But I can say that the girth of the lenses are pretty large, the 14-35 on the far left is a hefty lens indeed, and so is 70-300, but considering the reach, it's asking very little from your shoulders. The size of the new additions does help to highlight how dimunitive the 410/510 is :-)

I'm afraid that's all the pics I have of the cameras.

Cheers,

Hi There,

If I may, Tommy Nagashima-san in his presentation, pointed to a page which illustrates the Olympus people behind the Oly magic. It's at

http://www.olympus-esystem.com/dea/

To quote:
"“To enable reliable, trouble-free operation in adverse outdoor conditions, we also spared no effort in ensuring that virtually all ZUIKO DIGITAL lenses are highly resistant to dust and moisture. Focusing speed and precision were also a priority, as well as the ability to make fine manual adjustments after autofocusing has been achieved."

Topic "Passion for Best". Do note there're two pages per topic, so use the next nav button on the bottom of the page.

BTW: I love the portraits in monochrome :-)

Cheers,

Hello Selamatlzh,

That is a valid question to ask. None has been provided officially during the launch (strange) but even stranger is to read from CS is that MS Color has already obtained stocks for sale. It is a very strange feeling to shoot using a preproduction set during launch while the same day, production version is already hitting retail.

BTW: Oly SG has not replied to my enquiries on your behalf as yet ... ah well.

Hi Bariq,

I sought to enquire about the 510 together with the 410 but Oly says that's TBA, hence I left that out in my response :-)
